RTE Programmes feature Organ Donation

RTE  broadcast two very powerful programmes recently featuring the importance of the life giving cause of organ donation, The Moment of Truth - Blathanid Ní Cofaigh interview with Tony Gavigan, and Joe Brolly - Perfect Match.

In The Moment of Truth interview, broadcast on Sunday, 24th November, Tony Gavigan talks with honesty about his heartbreaking decision to stop his 12 year old son, Kyle's, life support,  before suffering from a kidney disorder and needing a transplant at the same hospital.

Joe Brolly - Perfect Match is a compelling observational documentary that follows Joe Brolly and Shane Finnegan, a man suffering from renal failure, as they campaign to transform the success rates of organ donation on the island of Ireland.

This documentary, shown on RTE 1 on Monday, 18th November, captures the journey undertaken by Joe and Shane  – from the moment Joe donated one of his kidneys to Shane, the harrowing aftermath of the operation, to their campaign to transform the success rates of organ donation on the island of Ireland.The documentary also goes behind the scenes into the corridors of power, North and South, as Joe and Shane attempt to change the organ donation law of consent  to  “Soft Opt Out”.
