Local Authority Support Initiative for Circle of Life
Local Authorities throughout the 32 counties have been invited to support Circle of Life, National Organ Donor Commemortive Garden, through a tree sponsorship scheme.
This initiative is one of considerable merit with potential to make a substantial contribution to the cause of organ donation, and give a sense of national inclusion in the garden to people from all over the country. At a very succesful cross border event held on February 1st, trees sponsored by Local Authorities from the four provinces were planted by representatives of organ donation communities, the medical profession and community groups from throughout the north and south of Ireland. Further planting will take place over the next month in preparation for the official opening which is planned for the first week in May.
Thanks to the following Local Authorities for their support:
Galway City Council; Galway County Council; Dubin City Council; South Co. Dublin Council; Leitrim County Council; Sligo County Council; Offaly County Council; Monaghan County Council; Roscommon County Council; Meath County Council; Kildare County Council; Derry District Council; Moyle District Council, Limavady Burough Council; Cork City Council; Ards Borough Council; Wexford County Council.
The sponsorship attachment per tree of €250 each will make a substantial contribution towards completing the funding programme of this entirely voluntary project. The unprecedented level of public solidarity and support which is being demonstrated through this Local Authority initiative further energises the image and publicity potential of what is already a national good news story. It also creates a sense of local pride and belonging that will extend to every parish in the country and contribute hugely to the cause of organ donation and transplantation in Ireland into the future.
